Afrikaans and Afrikaans Translation

This language is one of eleven official languages of the Republic of South Africa, and is also widely spoken in neighboring Namibia. A close relative of modern Dutch, with which it shares a high degree of mutual intelligibility, it is the mother tongue of approximately 60% of South Africa's population of European descent, and of over 90% of the mixed-race, or "coloured", population. Large numbers of "black" South Africans,Indians, and English-speaking whites (Anglo-Africans) also speak it as a second language.
