STI Founder and Former President Will Serve as Advisor

Schreiber Translations, Inc. (STI) announced today that Mordecai (Morry) Schreiber, founder and former president of STI, will became an advisor to the company. Morry has over 25 years of experience in the translation industry, both as a translator and an owner.

Morry’s dedication to the translation industry is best evidenced by the scar he bears on the left side of his face. He received the scar while picking up a translation from a freelance Serbian translator back in the mid-90’s in the days before Cyrillic word processing and communication via the internet and email were prevalent. Upon receiving the translation, Morry was struck by a taxi in Georgetown, Washington D.C. Instead of going straight to the hospital, he phoned his daughter, STI’s current President, Marla Schulman, to come get the translation and submit it to client.

Morry’s career began in 1979, as a Spanish and Hebrew translator for the FBI and US Department of State. For the next 2 years, Morry worked as a translator for various government agencies before creating his own company. In 1981, Schreiber Translations was formed in the basement of his Silver Spring, Maryland home. Shortly after the company began, Morry began to secure many of the translation industries most coveted document translation contracts. Morry recalls that “when he transitioned from the typewriter to the computer and entered a new age of technology that would change translation forever. He had to do everything on the run--learn the computer, bid on contracts, recruit translators in many languages, and run a viable business. He worked endless hours, but his efforts were vindicated.”

For the next 17 years, Morry continued to win government translation contracts as well as build a pool of private sector clients. In 1998, Morry stepped aside as President of Schreiber Translations, Inc. to pursue a career in publishing. His daughter, Marla (Schreiber) Schulman, is now President of the company.

Schulman had this to say about Morry’s career and his role as an advisor, “the basic principles of quality and on-time delivery with which Morry started Schreiber Translations, Inc. will continue to be his legacy for as long as this company exists, and his role as advisor will ensure that we never forget that these tenets are the pillars of our service.”
