Marla Schulman Elected President of the Association of Language Companies
Arlington, VA, June 26, 2007—The Board of Directors of the Association of Language Companies (ALC) has elected Marla Schulman of Bethesda, MD, president of the trade association. She will serve a one-year term expiring in May 2008.
Schulman is president of Schreiber Translations, Inc. (STI), one of the leading language services companies in the US. She has more than 10 years of management experience in the translation industry. STI, which provides translation, interpretation, foreign language desktop publishing, and localization services, has grown 25% over the last four years. Schulman has competed for and won some of the largest translation projects issued by US government agencies and private industry.
Schulman has long been an advocate of language services providers working together to promote the industry as a whole, including specifically to promote the importance of high-quality, professional language services. In addition to her work in the language industry, she is a board member of the Montgomery County Multiple Sclerosis Center, a member of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, and is involved in fundraising efforts for several local and national charitable institutions.
The ALC is recognized worldwide as a trade organization representing the interests of language services companies in the United States. Its member companies translate manuals, packaging, and other materials relating to products sold in countries where English is not the primary language and government documents, including military and intelligence materials; deliver simultaneous and telephonic interpretation in hospitals and courtrooms and at conferences; localize websites and other marketing materials; and, offer foreign language instruction.
