Latin and Latin Translation
This is a classical Indo-European language that was originally spoken in Latium, the region immediately surrounding Rome. It was the official language of the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire, and later, the Roman Catholic Church. Through the influence of the Church, Latin also became the predominant language of scholars and philosophers in medieval Europe. Despite its rich history, Latin is currently extinct, with few fluent speakers and no native ones.
Vulgar Latin is the ancestor of the Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.), and has influenced many other living languages, such as English where half of the vocabulary is directly or indirectly derived from Latin. It is also a major source of vocabulary in science, academia, and law.
Latin remains the official language of Vatican City and the Roman Rite of the Roman Catholic Church. It is still taught in many primary, grammar, secondary schools, and universities throughout the world.
