Oromo and Oromo Translation
Oromo is an Afro-Asiatic language, and the most widely-spoken of the Cushitic language family. Forms of the Oromo language are spoken by about 25 million people worldwide, mainly in Ethiopia, and to a lesser extent in parts of Somalia and Kenya. There are also sizable communities in Yemen and the United States. Oromo is the 4th most spoken language in Africa (after Arabic, Swahili and Hausa).
The written language utilizes a modified form of the Latin alphabet, called Qubee, which was adopted formally in 1991. Other versions of the Latin alphabet were used previously, as well as an indigenous script called Sapalo. In Muslim-dominated areas, the Arabic script has also been used.
Oromo has two grammatical genders (masculine and feminine), which enters into the grammar in several ways. Its verbs include a stem which represents the lexical meaning of the verb, as well as a suffix that denotes the tense or aspect and agreement.
