Romanian and Romanian Translation
This is a Romance language spoken primarily in Romania and Moldova (where it is known as "Moldovan"). There are approximately 24 million native speakers. Despite Romania's location in a generally Slavic-speaking part of Europe, its language is actually more closely related to Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian. Over the course of its development, however, it has incorporated a number of Slavic influences. Interestingly, there is a certain degree of asymmetrical mutual intelligibility between Romanian and Italian, mostly among their more cultivated forms.
Due to its geographical isolation, Romanian was most likely the first language that split from Latin, and until the modern period was not influenced by the other Romance languages. This may explain why Romanian is one of the most uniform languages in Europe. It also tends to be more conservative than other Romance languages in certain respects, such as nominal morphology.
The Romanian alphabet is based on the Latin alphabet, but has five additional letters. The Romanian spoken in Moldova used a special version of the Cyrillic alphabet until 1989, when it also chose to adopt the Latin alphabet.
