Spanish and Spanish Translation
This is a Romance language originally from the northern area of Spain. Also known as Castilian, it gradually spread from the Iberian Peninsula to Africa, the Americas, and Pacific Asia over the last five centuries. 21 nations now use Spanish as their primary language, and there are a total of 400 million speakers worldwide-- 322 million of which speak it as their mother-tongue. It is the most widely spoken Romance language and the fourth most spoken language worldwide.
The closest relatives of Castilian Spanish are the other West Iberian Romance languages, such as Asturian, Galician, Ladino (essentially medieval Castilian), and Portuguese, as well as to Catalan, and East Iberian language that exhibits many Gallo-Romance traits. Spanish and Portuguese share similar grammars and vocabulary, as well as a history of Arabic influence. It is estimated that their lexical similarity is at 89%. Spanish and Italian also share a very similar phonological system, and their lexical similarity is approximately 82%.
The vast majority of Spanish speakers are located in Latin America. Of the countries with large populations of Spanish speakers, only Spain is situated outside of the Americas. In the United States, it is estimated that there are approximately 32 million people who speak Spanish inside the home.
