Swahili and Swahili Translation
Swahili is a Bantu language, and the most widely spoken language in sub-Saharan Africa. Although it is only spoken by about 5-10 million people as their native language, it has become somewhat of a lingua franca in East Africa, spoken by around 80 million people, primarily in Tanzania, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as Uganda. It is also the only African language among the working languages of the African Union.
Modern standard Swahili is based on Kiunguja, which is the dialect spoken in Zanzibar town, however, there are numerous other dialects spoken throughout eastern Africa. Swahili was originally written using the Arabic script, but since the time of European colonization, the Latin alphabet has become the standard.
