Turkmen and Turkmen Translation
This is the official language of Turkmenistan, a former Soviet Republic in Central Asia. Turkmen is a member of the Turkic language family, specifically the East Oghuz group of the southwestern Turkic languages. There are approximately 9 million speakers worldwide, located primarily in Turkmenistan, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Turkey.
Written Turkmen is based on the Yomud dialect. The language currently uses a modified Latin script, although the Cyrillic alphabet is still in fairly wide use, a result of Russian influence from Soviet times. Prior to 1929, Turkmen used a modified Arabic alphabet.
